Lister Hospital Services

Lister Hospital - Outpatient Clinics 

Bedford Hospital/Lister and Luton & Dunstable

Services available from a nephrologist who covers all three hospital sites, but whose main site is Lister Hospital. Please refer by letter.

  • CKD Stages 3 upwards
  • Difficult to manage Hypertension.

Who to Refer

Patients with:

  • Very High baseline Creat- First reading
  • If PCR>100
  • GFR progression>4/yr(~10-15%)
  • <55yrs if any doubts
  • Bone disease, severe anaemia
  • Other Kidney disease suspected- PKD,Ig A nephropathy etc

Please note: when seeking/receiving advice in regard to patient care and making referrals, NHS Connecting for Health Information Governance standards and policies must be adhered to.

Who not to Refer

Stable patients where a change in creat may be due to a reversible factor - see flowchart.

CKD Pathway Flowchart

The reversible factors to be considered may include treating an underlying UTI, discontinuing ACEI/ARB and excluding any obstructive uropathy. Please refer to the flow chart.
