Services

Luton and Dunstable Hospital provides a comprehensive Endocrine service, encompassing common and uncommon Endocrine disorders. We work in close collaboration with Endocrine Surgery, Paediatric Endocrinology and Clincial Biochemistry in-house, and the Endocine and Pituitary team in Oxford and Cambridge.

Who to Refer

General Endocrine clinic

  • Patients with thyroid disorders - hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism are seen in the General Endocrine clinic.

One Stop Surgical Thyroid Clinic

  • Euthyroid patients with thyroid swelling
  • Patients with pituitary and adrenal disorders including hyperprolactinaemia, hypopituitrausm, amenorrhoea, hypogonadism, features suggestive of excessive hormonal secretion (Cushing's, Acromegaly, etc) and hypofunction (Addison's).
  • Patients with Gonadal disorders including hypogonadism, PCOS
  • Electrolyte and metabolic disorders
  • Secondary hypertension patients
  • Patients with other rarer disorders with a strong suspicion of endocrine aetiology
  • Pregnant patients with endocrine problems can be seen at the request of GP or Obstetrics team.

Medical Day Patient Unit or as an inpatient

  • For both in patients and out patients who require dynamic endocrine investigations

New patients clinic

  • For all new referrals are seen
  • Patients with urgent endocrine problems like hyperthyroidism, electrolyte disorders are seen urgently - especially if no treatment has been initiated in the community

One Stop Thyroid Nodule Clinic

  • For euthyroid patients with thyroid lump. Referral to be sent to Mr Pittam, Mr Ravichandran and Mr Kothari.

Pituitary clinic and Joint Adolescent Endocrine clinic

  • These are for follow-ups of patients after they have been seen in the General Endocrine clinic

Who not to Refer

Erectile dysfunction with normal gonadal functions is not seen by this department and should be referred to Urology Sexual dysfunction clinic.
